By Apostle Alex Adusei Agyemang

2 Samuel 12:8-9KJV

And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

It might be interesting to note that many of the rich and powerful of society who oppress, disrespect and disregard the poor were once upon a time themselves poor.

It’s like some of the politicians of these days. They told the people, we are one of you so vote us into power, when we get there we will advance your cause. After they get into office, it becomes about them and their families. Humans tend to be that way; they don’t remember their beginnings.

King David was no different. David was of a humble beginning, he was a commoner born to Jesse of Bethlehem. He wasn’t a top class of society but like they say, power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely. When this David, a wonderful man as such became King over Israel, he ordered the killing of Uriah the Hittite and took his wife. David forgot his beginnings, that he was once a commoner and a poor man like Uriah.

God loved David but this thing that he did displeased the Lord for David forgot his beginnings.

It’s like the Israelites, God warned them to be careful how they treat strangers remembering that they themselves used to be strangers in the land of Egypt. So if they didn’t like how the Egyptians treated them, they should likewise be careful how they treat the foreigners in their land.

It’s like some rich Christians, they used to be poor but after God elevated them, they rather disrespect and disregard the poor Christians in the church. These folks forget their beginnings. Never forget your beginnings

If when you were poor, you didn’t like how the rich and powerful in society regarded you, why do the same to that poor fellow now that you are somebody.

David forgot his beginnings so God came to him through His voice, the prophet Nathan and said, remember oh remember David that you were nobody, a mere shepherd tending your father’s flock but I took you by My Mighty Hand and made you King over the whole realm of Israel. You used to be a commoner and poor as Uriah the Hittite, why did you forget your beginning David? Why did you? You should have known the plight of the poor since you were once poor. How could you, David? How could you? You forgot your beginnings

Child of God, don’t forget your beginnings so to do what is just and fair to the poor and the beggarly of society

God bless you!
