By Apostle Alex Adusei Agyemang John 5:35KJV He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light To be a burning and a shining light is to be effective and productive in that which God has sent you to do. Jesus referred to John the Baptist as a burning and a shining light. This John didn’t perform what we will refer to as a miracle yet the Lord called John a burning and a shining light. Many times there are Christians who do not put importance to certain things they do, they consider them as not valuable in the eyes of God but they are wrong. This John didn’t perform even a single miracle but was referred to as a burning and shining light because he rebuked Israel concerning their sins and called them to repentance. When Jesus sent the seventy and they came back rejoicing that they had performed miracles and cast out devils, this is what the Master said “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven…….Luke 10:20KJV” Salvation of souls is more important than miracles. The greatest miracle is when a soul is saved. So when you don’t conceal righteousness but turn your family, friends and acquaintances from their evil ways, you like John becomes a burning and shining light. God is displeased when Christians conceal righteousness. We don’t light a candle to put it under a bowl. He says, let your light shine. Let it shine in your sphere of contact. Let that light shine. Be a burning and a shining light! “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven….Matthew 5:14-16KJV” There are Christians who prefer that people keep what they know to themselves. This is borne out of ignorance and self-centeredness. This is never the way of the Kingdom. God doesn’t show you or send someone to show you something just because of you. Life is not about us, it’s about God and His vision. Therefore, be a burning and a shining light. God bless you!
