Ye cannot serve God and mammon Don’t be offended, you are wise to listen. The Christian cannot have two lords, it’s either Jesus is your lord or money is. Jesus is not your Lord just because you call Him Lord. This is not how He thinks. It’s important to consider what and how Jesus thinks. He says “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?…..Luke 6:46KJV” Jesus is supposed to be the Lord if you are a Christian but does your life affirm that? What does it mean to be a lord? A lord is a possessor and disposer of a thing, to be a lord means you own something and make the decisions concerning that particular thing. It means He gives you the instructions on how to run your life. It means you live for Him and everything that He says. When you say that Jesus is my Lord, this is what you are implying. There are Christians both rich and poor who have made money, their Lord. They live for money. All their life is about building wealth for themselves and family. This is what fills their mind. Money is what drives them and has been deciding how they have been living their lives. They are always busy, busy and striving for money. They want to build a legacy. They are storing and laying up treasures on earth. God is not against money, He is against money being your Lord. To such people they are successful because of the money they have amassed. They call themselves achievers. Oh! The preacher said, “And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun……..Ecclesiastes 2:10-11KJV” He says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding……Proverbs 4:7KJV” The success of a creature is the fulfillment of the purpose for which the creator made him. You are not successful because you have built an empire and amassed wealth. You are successful for knowing why you’re currently on earth as a Christian and fulfilling it. You are successful for knowing the window we currently are in God’s calendar and knowing your role in His current agenda. Jesus says, “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth….Luke 12:15KJV” Jesus was and has always been consistent. He came and preached the same message to the Christians at Laodicea, after His ascension “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:….Revelation 3:14-17KJV” What He said to the Jews was the same He preached to the Christians at Laodicea “ A man’s life is not measured by wealth and money” If Jesus doesn’t measure us by money, we become fools if we do Therefore live for what most matters in life, go for souls and the works of righteousness.
