Proverbs 16:18 KJV

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall

The Bible says “pride goeth before destruction”. As a Christian, you are never supposed to entertain pride in the quarters of your heart.

The wiseman says,

“These six things doth the Lord hate, yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren….. Proverbs 8:16-19KJV”

Child of God, make sure to never allow any of these seven things into your life. The first of the things mentioned is pride.

God hates pride. Never see yourself better than a brother or sister. Love and respect all, whether educated or uneducated, poor or rich, old or young, yellow or black, Mongolian or Caucasian. Value human beings, especially your fellow Christian.

Pride will bring you low, it will bring shame. God will make that individual understand that he or she is a created being. The creature has no right to be proud; he has no right to boast. All he has, he received. Therefore the giver and not the creature is to be glorified. This is why Christianity is Christ glorified in man, he becomes your glory.

Pride is devilish. The first to be proud was Lucifer who later became satan. When a man is proud, God is reminded of satan, he sees satan in that individual. Therefore, don’t entertain pride

Every expression of character or attitude has its spiritual implication and interpretation.

Why does pride go before destruction? Does the word “ destruction” sound familiar? It speaks of the destroyer.

When the Christian is proud, satan starts condemning that individual. This is what takes place in the realm of the spirit. Such individual better repent for destruction and shame are about to follow

“He must not be a novice in the faith, lest being lifted up with pride, he fall into the condemnation of the devil….1 Timothy 3:6KJV”

The Christian falls into satan’s accusation when he is proud. Other translators of this verse placed the focus on that  Christian incurring the same fate as the devil when he was proud. Though this is implied, this wasn’t what Paul had in focus in this verse.

He is rather addressing the fact that a Christian gets into satan’s accusation when he allows pride in his heart. Why? This is because pride was what brought him low so he can legally and will legally accuse any christian walking in pride. The Bible calls satan the accuser of the brethren. So the KJV is the best translation in this verse.

Another good translation put it this way,

“A church leader must not be a new believer, because he might become proud, and the devil would cause him to fall…..NLT”

Pride is not good, it is of the devil . Don’t be proud!

God bless you!
