Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement

 

It is important that Christians know what they are going for when they decide to marry. If this is well understood there wouldn’t be divorces in Christian marriages.

Like Jesus said, count the cost first.

“ For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?….Luke 14:28KJV”

Marriage like all other institutions has its demands hence you count the cost and see if you can meet. You don’t go in and complain of not being able to meet the cost. You should have counted the cost first.

When you say that you are a Christian, what it means is you have accepted to live and guide your life by God’s wisdom , instructions and provisions on any matter, circumstance and situation. What His Word says and not the world defines your understanding of matters.

Some of the divorces in the church have been due to couples living by the wisdom of the world rather than of God.

As a woman, you have to understand that contrary to what you or any person may think when you call that man your husband, you are saying that he is my lord.

This sounds silly to some people. Yes! The wisdom of God is foolishness to the unwise. Husband means Lord, it doesn’t mean my male partner.

So Peter referred the christian women to how sarah called Abraham Lord. Where did Peter get it from?He got it from Genesis

“Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?….Genesis 18:12KJV”

Husband doesn’t mean male partner in a marriage, it means master, it means Lord.

In Christ, the male is not better than the female. They are equal but in marriage the husband is a higher office than that of the wife. So the Bible says that the husband is the head over the woman. There isn’t equality between a husband and wife. This is how God sees it. You may be a wife, more educated and even in a higher office when it comes to the profession ladder but you ought to leave that hat at the gate before you enter the house. You only take it up again in the morning at the gate when going for work.

Now, does this put women in a position of disadvantage? Not at all!

Jesus said,

“Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:….. Matthew 20:25-27KJV”

Authority is not to be exercised by Christians the same way it is done in the world.

In the world, the one in authority is to be served, a despot and cruel dictator. In Christianity, authority should be to the happiness, benefit and advantage of those below you. If Christian husbands understand this, that privileged position that God has given them will be to the profiting and protection of their wives. If a woman suffers because you are the head, it means a lack of wisdom in understanding christian leadership. That said, love doesn’t necessarily mean doing what will make another happy but what is best for her in the eyes of God. The woman should understand that the husband is not a male partner, he is lord over her.

The wisdom of God says,

“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord; for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, and He is the savior of the body….Ephesians 5:22-23KJV”

 

He tells the wives to submit themselves to their husband and gives them the reason. He says because he is your head, submit yourself to him. This is not equality, there is a difference in authority.

For the husband, He says

“Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it,…..Ephesians 5:25KJV”

The Husband is supposed to put the wife first, before himself but not before God.

When these are understood by both spouses, there wouldn’t be a divorce.

Anytime there is a divorce, it means either one or both were disobedient to God’s instruction and wisdom. It’s simple as that. It pays to listen to God. When you take any other position, shame will at the end befall you
