By Apostle Alex Adusei Agyemang

Luke 12:21KJV
“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

He says,
“Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem….Zechariah 1:17KJV”

God is not a God of poverty; He is a God of prosperity. When you find Jesus consistently referring to the rich as fools, it isn’t because God is for poverty. It is because those rich people didn’t understand the purpose of prosperity.
As a Christian, you have to understand the purpose of prosperity. He prospers you for His work of righteousness. He doesn’t prosper you so you become a dam, accumulating, building and living in luxury. Such prosperity is guided by the wisdom of the world. His works of righteousness are not a side thing to your prosperity; it is the primary purpose for which God prospers you.

This is why Jesus was angry with the rich Christians in Laodicea; they thought God prospered them so they have abundance and more than necessary. They didn’t understand the purpose of prosperity. As long as you think that God prospered because of you and your Children, you are acting foolishly.

“So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:….. Revelation 3:16-17KJV”

John said,

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world……..1 John 2:15-16KJV”
The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastings of life, is not of God hence He doesn’t prosper because of these things.

For you the Christian, as long as your prosperity is centered on these things you are acting foolishly. The reason why God put riches in the hands of the Christians is to advance His works of righteousness and most especially to advance the Gospel.

“Through prosperity shall the cities of Zion be built, sayeth the Lord” God was angry with that foolish man because all that he thought was accumulating and building wealth for him and family. There are two kinds of rich Christians. There are those who invest most of their wealth in things that pertain to this life. Don’t get it wrong, they give to God but it is a “giving” that doesn’t cost them, it gives them comfort. This is not wisdom.

Why give rather less towards the primary purpose for which God prospered you? Those who have come to a true understanding of prosperity put the things of God first. They will not continue building their mansion when God’s work has not been done.

Are you rich for yourself or for God?

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the LORD. “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the LORD Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house…..Haggai 1:7-9NIV”

It is wiser to put God’s own first before your own. Be rich for God. The one whose prosperity is for God will not go on building his own when God’s work is in need of money.

Like the fool Jesus talked about, there are many rich Christians that God is angry at because of their ways.
Paul said to Timothy,
“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life…..1 Timothy 6:17-19NIV

The same is what I am doing; I am commanding the rich to do what is right. Be rich for God and not for yourself

God bless you!
