Scripture admonishes the younger to respect and honour the aged and rightly so. We live in a time when young people have no respect for the old and that is very sad. The Bible says, “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy…….2 Timothy 3:1-2KJV” Having said this, honouring the aged shouldn’t be misconstrued as the aged always being right. Righteousness is not about age but the word of God. The aged is expected to know better but this is not always the case. There are old people who will say, listen to age. This statement is actually true, we must indeed listen to age and since God is infinitely older than any human being on earth then we should listen to what God has to say. For to listen to age is to listen to God, He is the ancient of days. When we all get to understand that God is older than all of us, we will humble ourselves to listen to Him. This is why a man is right to listen to God over any elderly human being. If you can prove to me that you are older than God, I will listen to you but till then we have to listen to God. So it is not wrong for elderly people to say, listen to age but what they should realize is that by saying that it puts a demand on them to listen to and obey God. Wisdom truly is with the ancient; it is with the ancient of days. God knowing that He is older than any man says, “………………Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God…. Matthew 4:4KJV” Therefore, let us all listen to God! God bless you!
