Devotion (The Trumpeter):
When honour becomes worship

Colossians 3:29 KJV

Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

There is a difference between honoring a man and worshipping a man, honoring your parents and a worship of parents. There is a difference between honoring your pastor and worshipping a pastor. There is a difference between honoring your husband and the worship of a husband. The is a difference between cherishing your wife and when the wife becomes an idol in your life.

God calls for honoring of people and not their worship. No human being male or female is to be made an object of worship. No created being is to be worshipped. The problem is that some don’t know the difference between honoring a man and when it becomes a worship of a man. God will not accept the worship of anyhuman. There will be dire consequences.

It becomes a worship of a parent, husband, wife, pastor, master when they define all the rules regarding that relationship, when they determine all what and how that relationship should be and not the Word of God.

It becomes a worship and not honor when it is what they want in every step of the way and not how God says that relationship should go.

There are some husbands who are like Adam, it is rather what their wives want than what God wants.

God said to Adam,

“And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy

wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou

shalt not eat of it:…….Genesis 3:17KJV”

There is a difference between loving and cherishing a wife and when that wife becomes the God of your life.

Some wives too are the same. They think submitting to your husband means submitting to everything he says without the boundary of God’s Word. The man rather has become her God. The Word of God is what should determine the rules in any relationship or engagement.

Oh! How evil it is when the flocks make the pastor a God and give no heed to the boundary of God’s Word?

God said, esteem the pastor. He didn’t ask you to worship him. It becomes worship when the honor is not in the confines of God’s Word. It becomes a worship when the church goes with what the pastor says even when it disagrees with the Word of God. There will be consequences for the one who dishonors his pastor but there will also be consequences for those who worship him.

Paul says,

“And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another…..1 Corinthians 4:6KJV”

It should always be according to that which is written.

He says,

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ”

Whatsoever you do should be guided by God’s Word.

Confession
