Luke 9:62KJV

And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

There are Christians who have all kinds of excuses for not being fully engaged in God’s work. It makes sense to them, their family and peers.

For some, the excuse has to do with marriage; it may be a job or profession when it comes to others. Christians have all kinds of excuses for not accomplishing the very work for which Jesus left them on earth. Such is indiscipline.

In this COVID period, you hear of many people including Christians who slept and never woke up. They didn’t wake up to go for work the next morning.

Now, what reasonable excuse will they have for God? Is it the work they left behind? The company will mourn him but after employ another to carry on.

The man or woman who has become your excuse for not serving God may marry another if you were no more.

Jesus told a man to follow Him but the man responded, “I will follow you but permit me first to go bury my dead father. The man never said he wasn’t going to follow the Master. All that he wanted was a permission to first bury the dead father.

Tell this to some church brethren, it will make a great deal of sense to them but let’s observe the reply of the Lord,

“Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God….Luke 9:60KJV”

I can bet with you that this surely wasn’t the reply the man was anticipating for. He thought he had said something really sensible that Jesus would have understood.

The interesting thing is that Jesus referred to the other Jews who were on the parade to go bury the dead man as dead. Interesting! As long as the Lord was concerned, they were as dead as the dead father himself because of their way of life.

“Let the dead bury their dead He retorted”. Is Jesus against funeral service? Not at all. Remember that the Good book says,

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn….Romans 12:15 NIV”

The Master was teaching about “focus and priority”, the need for Christians to focus on what is most important in life.

It’s like a president who sends many ambassadors to various nations. He calls the ambassador to Liberia to find out how the work is going but he says, “Mr. President, I cultivated a very big farm in Liberia and it’s taking most of my time from the ambassadorial duties”. What about ambassador Francis of Turkey? Mr president, thank you very much for the opportunity to be in Turkey, I set up many businesses in Turkey and they are booming, I have even enrolled in courses so as to be better equipped in managing my businesses, this hasn’t afforded me the time to carry out the assignment for the state. Secretary, put me on line with the ambassador to the UK. How are things in the UK, Mr. Ambassador? Oh Sir,

I found this beautiful woman and we married. We now have lots of kids. This hasn’t afforded me the time to advance the international relations and policies of the state.

What do you think the president will do? I will tell you. He would order for the return of these officers. He will say, these men and women didn’t understand the meaning of being an ambassador. They never understood why I sent them to those nations. The president will be very much displeased.

Such is the behavior of many Christians, to them they are successful because of the money they have acquired, the businesses they have, the profession that they are engaged in, the men and women they have married, the universities they have attended and the certificates and laurels that they have attained.

They never heard Jesus when He said,

“As Thou hast sent Me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world….John 17:18KJV”

They have not been taught to understand that each one of them is an ambassador of the state of Heaven to the world.

Can God trust you?

God bless you!

Confession

I believe with my heart that Jesus is the very Son of God that He came to die for me and was raised up by God the Father. I confess Him as the Lord of my life from this day forward. Hallelujah!  I am born again
